Currently the IFTDSS Team offers the following self-paced courses on the Wildland Fire Learning Portal:
Fundamentals for IFTDSS Program (~2.5 hours to complete)

Designed to give users foundational background on geospatial and fire modeling basics.

Introduces core concepts for fire behavior modeling including fire behavior fuel models and their selection, LANDFIRE, and geospatial modeling approaches.

Intended use: Provides a foundation of geospatial and fire modeling basics. Everyone comes to the table with different backgrounds so this course a consist set of core modeling principles.
This is a program made up of four short courses, followed by the IFTDSS Overview course which, which is described below.
IFTDSS Overview 2025/6 (~4 hours to complete)

Designed to give users foundational background on geospatial and fire modeling basics.

Walks through the basics of creating an account, navigating IFTDSS, creating and editing landscapes, adding shapes, and running basic fire behavior.

Intended use: Provides a foundation of geospatial and fire modeling basics. Everyone comes to the table with different backgrounds so this course a consist set of core modeling principles.
How to Use IFTDSS for Prescribed Fire Plans (~2 hours to complete) Retired - A new version is being developed for 2025.

Designed to highlight IFTDSS features for burn planning.

Walks through landscape creation and editing, using IFTDSS outputs, and applying IFTDSS for prescription development, holding and contingency planning.

Intended use: Applying IFTDSS for burn planning.

The intent of the workshop is to practice using IFTDSS with an exercise that has solutions included so users can check their work.

Intended use: Provides exercises for use with IFTDSS Workshops, either in-person, online, or both.
