Landscape Versions
LANDFIRE data is available for the conterminous United States and Alaska within IFTDSS. Depending on the location, some or all of the versions in the table below are available. Each version represents a different temporal period.
LANDFIRE Version | Availability | Description |
---|---|---|
LANDFIRE 2023 (LF 2023 / LF 2.4.0) | Western United States and Alaska |
Includes adjustments to vegetation and fuels in disturbed areas for disturbances recorded in 2023. In LF 2023, disturbances from the previous year are represented in current year products. However, LF 2023 marks the first version where only the past year is represented. Whereas LF 2022 included 2 years of disturbance (2021 and 2022) the LF 2023 Update includes only one year of disturbance (2023). |
LANDFIRE 2022 (LF 2022 / LF 2.3.0) | Conterminous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii | Includes adjustments to vegetation and fuels in disturbed areas for disturbances recorded in 2020-2022. |

Disturbances through the calendar year of 2016 are reflected in this product. |
LANDFIRE 2014 (LF 2014 - LF 1.4.0) | Conterminous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii | LF2014 was an update to LF 2012 to more accurately represent current conditions and account for landscape disturbances that occurred in calendar years 2013 and 2014. |
LANDFIRE 2012 (LF 2012 - LF 1.3.0) | Conterminous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii | LF2012 was an update to LF2010 to more accurately represent current conditions and account for landscape disturbances that occurred in calendar years 2011 and 2012. |

Editing Different LANDFIRE Versions in IFTDSS
In IFTDSS, there are two methods for editing landscapes. Some editing methods require a specific LANDFIRE version or location.
- Default Fuels Treatment Edit Rule: Available for LANDFIRE 2012 and 2014 data in the Lower 48 states.
-
User Created Edit Rule: Available for all LANDFIRE versions and locations.
Important! Default Fuels Treatment Edit Rules are not yet compatible with LANDFIRE 2016 or later. Currently, attempting to edit these versions with this method will generate a warning message and you will be unable to proceed. In future versions of IFTDSS New Default Fuels Treatment Edit Rules will be developed.
