Getting Started: Navigating IFTDSS
The main components of the IFTDSS application are outlined below. These can be accessed anytime from the top navigation bar. They include:
My Home
This is the page you first arrive on after logging into IFTDSS. It contains a short introduction paragraph to IFTDSS as well as shortcut buttons to other parts of IFTDSS.
My Workspace
My Workspace: This is a list of all your files used in IFTDSS. These can be organized into folders. Clicking on the name of any file brings up options such as edit, delete, and view on map. My Workspace is also available from the Continue Working button on My Home. The files available in My Workspace include:
- Landscape files (.lcp files) which is the basic file used throughout IFTDSS to represent your landscape.
- Shapefiles that you upload and those that you create within IFTDSS.
The Fuels Planning Cycle
The Fuels Planning Cycle: The planning cycle walks you through the steps of landscape planning, such as landscape evaluation, strategic planning, implementation, and reporting. Each stage of the planning cycle walks you through the steps necessary to complete it. Each step takes you to the part of the IFTDSS application needed to complete it. The Planning Cycle can also be accessed from the Start New button on My Home.
My Modeling Playground
My Modeling Playground: Here, you choose which models you'd like to run, and then begin modeling. All model outputs are listed in My Modeling Playground. Clicking on a model output name brings up options such as Copy, View Input, Download, Delete, or View on Map (see results displayed in Map Studio). My Modeling Playground may also be accessed via the My Modeling Playground button on My Home.
Map Studio
Map Studio: This is the mapping interface of IFTDSS, where you can create and edit landscape and shape files, view modeling outputs spatially, and compare various landscape features and modeling outputs across your landscape. This is available on navigation bar at the top of IFTDSS.
Help
You may access the IFTDSS Help Center anytime by clicking the Help icon in the top right of the menu bar.
Help Center: will take you to the Help Center main page and search bar. From here you can use the links, or search bar, to find full-length help pages, videos, tutorials, and technical documentation.
About this Page:will take you to the specific topic in Help Center that addresses the page you're using in IFTDSS, generally a step by step walk-though with video links.
As you use Help Center will notice Warnings, Notes, Tips, Announcements:
Important! Important text indicates information you need to know to successfully complete a task or avoid interpretation errors.
Note: Notes include helpful information that applies to the task you are performing.
Tip: Tips include information that will save time, or make subsequent processes in IFTDSS easier.
Q & A Forums - takes you to the IFTDSS Users forum where you can get help from other IFTDSS users.
Help Tour - Displays short tips and links within the interface.
There are also help embedded in the IFTDSS interface, either small question mark icons that display very brief tips and links when clicked, or help information displayed in the right-hand panel.
